I was minding my own business, getting ready to go to lunch on Friday, when a customer asked for my help. As I turned to look directly at him, I saw a smile I hadn’t seen in years.
In 1992, Jacob, Marc and Henry moved from the USSR to Cincinnati and ended by buying houses across the street from me. Three Russian families in a row. Personally, I found it enjoyable as I realized if the kids would interact with each other while sharing their native language, the kids on the cul-de-sac would have learned Chinese, Japanese, Russian, German, English and Arabic (my former brother-in-law is Jordanian).
But I am sidetracked.
Jacob had moved several years ago and was still living in the area. We caught up on old times, including where the kids were and what they were doing. After this, I asked, “So, what do you think of the current political climate in the United States?”
Jacob’s reply was insightful. “I left Russia to get away from the stupidity (that was socialism). Now we have the same stupidity here in America.”
“In fact,” he continued, “What is currently going on in America is worse than what I experienced in the USSR.”
At 19, Jacob was in the Russian army. Within a couple of years, he was married and had a child. He’s a couple of years older than I am, so he could have served in the Soviet army early in the invasion into Afghanistan days. But here he was, saying the USA is in worse shape than the USSR was in the 1970s and 80s.
I didn’t ask him to clarify his statement as I was more interested whether his children had embraced American ideals or whether they had embraced their Soviet heritage. I was happy to learn the kids thought socialism was ‘stupid’ as well.
Unfortunately, many Americans seem to disagree as we are marching lockstep into a socialist utopia (read tyranny should you want to know what a socialist utopia is truly like). That’s too bad (IMHO). While quite a few rave about the socialist utopias of Europe, they seem to overlook or ignore Vlad’s comment “the goal of socialism is communism.”
Which begs the question – how do you provide for yourself, your family and loved ones outside your family while living in tyranny? It’s simple, but not easy. However, I do spell it out for you in my book, Prospering in a Socialist Society, available HERE. I provide you with a deep understanding of why you do not want socialism but since some of you want to try it on for yourself (while foisting it on the entire world at the same time), I give you insights as well as biographies of individuals who thrived while living under such circumstances. Again, it’s all HERE
